This Yato 9‑piece BMW VANOS engine timing tool set is designed for servicing and setting the timing on BMW petrol engines equipped with VANOS, including common 4‑ and 6‑cylinder units. It allows accurate positioning and locking of camshafts, crankshaft and VANOS components when checking, adjusting or rebuilding the timing system.

Designed for BMW engines with single VANOS, including (examples):

• 4‑cyl: M42, M44 (e.g. E36 318i/318is, Z3 1.8/1.9)

• 6‑cyl: M50, M50TU, M53, M52/M52US, S52US (e.g. E34/E39 520i/525i, E36/E46 320i/325i/328i, Z3 2.8, some US‑spec 6‑cyl models)

Kit contents (typical):

• Camshaft alignment tool – holds the camshafts in correct TDC position while timing is set.

• Crankshaft locking pin – locks the crankshaft at top dead centre.

• VANOS timing socket / tools – for positioning the VANOS unit and gears correctly.

• Additional brackets/plates and fasteners to secure timing chain and sprockets during work.

Application:

Not suitable for newer BMW N‑series engines (e.g. N42, N46, N52, N54, N55, N20, etc.), which require different timing tool kits.
